Streets and Squares I Trulli

Immagine di I Trulli

Alberobello is the capital of the trulli and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its ancient part consists of one thousand trulli (tholos word probably of Greek origin meaning dome), buildings offering a unique spectacle in the world, are made of   dry stone, composed of a number of different rooms topped by white walls with conical roofs of gray chiancarelle. On the tip end of the cone is a pinnacle of limestone, also whitewashed;  chiancarelle are drawn with white chalk drawings of various kinds. The sovereign trullo, with its 14 meters in height, is the most imposing.
