Churches Chiesa San Marco dei Veneziani

Immagine di Chiesa San Marco dei Veneziani

Along Vico San Marco stands this medieval church, which is traditionally presumed to have been founded after the liberation of Bari from the siege of the saracens in 1002 by the venetians. Traces of the medieval building are still evident in the façade, as it is decorated with forms of rosary beads and a winged lion, which is the symbol of Venice and the Evangelist Mark. Around the church traces of the venetian quarter of old Bari, where a colony of merchants coming from the most serene republic of Venice had settled, are still evident.
