Basilica di Santa Croce
One of the symbols of the regional capital is the Basilica of Santa Croce which appears almost unexpectedly as you turn the corner facing onto a very narrow street. The imposing façade, the balustrades supported by fantastical animals and anthropomorphic figures and the valuable inlaid rose window are not the only things to impress, but also the interior of the temple: bright, solemn, architecturally picturesque.
Work began in fact in 1353 but was interrupted shortly afterwards due to the death of Gualtiero di Bienne the commissioner and patron of the project.
The church was finished in 1699.
